A day of celebration, food, fun and dancing will take place at the “Swinging Through the ’40s Party,” on Saturday, September 19, at the Timbers of Shorewood retirement community, 1100 N. River Road. The public is invited too all events.
The schedule:
- 5 p.m. – Car show
- 6 p.m. – The Legacy Girls performance
- 7:30 p.m. – Del Bergeson Orchestra performance
The car show will include vintage cars, and car owners will be on hand to answer questions.
The Legacy Girls was started in 2006 and was formerly known as Tres Bella. The trio is comprised of three friends who started out singing together in church choir. After they sang a special number that had a Big Band feel to it, several people told them they sounded like the Andrews Sisters.
They decided to bring the Andrews Sisters music to life. In their production of “America’s Wartime Sweethearts,” the Legacy Girls performs a delightfully entertaining tribute to the music that uplifted and unified a nation.
The “girls” are: Nancy Baumet, Renee Hein, Dia Madden, Jan Carpenter and Mary Ellen Shannon.
They perform such wartime hits as Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree, Beer Barrel Polka, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Pennsylvania 65000, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, Don’t Fence Me In, Lullaby of Broadway, Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby and perhaps most famous – Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.
Members of the Del Bergeson Orchestra are 25+ year music professionals, each with a deep passion for music and entertaining. Several members are music instructors teaching at the university level.
Del Bergeson, director, has experience and talent. He played trombone and was a vocalist with the Jay Mau Orchestra for whom he sang the Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Sammy Davis Jr. standards.
The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
