The Timbers of Shorewood presents “A Visit with Mark Twain,” by Warren Brown at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, November 12, at the retirement community, 1100 N. River Road.
Warren Brown, a Mark Twain scholar, received the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award for his portrayal of Samuel Clemens.
Brown has performed as Mark Twain since 1996. His program promotes an appreciation for humanity in a way that is amusing, inspirational and historically accurate. In his portrayal of Twain, Brown authentically replicates the courageous spirit of America’s greatest humorist. As Twain said, “Against the assault of laughter, nothing can stand.”
In addition, Brown has performed many shows for The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to revitalize the role of literary reading in American culture, bringing communities together to read, discuss, and celebrate books and writers from American and world literature.
He is a member of Advocates United with 20 years’ service as a literacy tutor and volunteer for various disability groups. Brown has created comedy show fundraisers and creative writing seminars for students.
