Timbers of Shorewood donates $11,200 to the Alzheimer’s Association on #GivingTuesday
The Timbers of Shorewood donated $11,200 to the Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association as part of #GivingTuesday. The money was raised during multiple events and fundraisers throughout the year.
“Our events and fundraising during our 20th anniversary year were the most successful in our history,” said Kevin Young, executive director of the Timbers of Shorewood. “Last year we donated $5,000. This year we were able to double it with $11,200. We are very proud to support the Alzheimer’s Association with this donation.”
Events and fundraisers that contributed to the donation:
- Team Timbers Alzheimer’s Walk
- Cubs tickets raffle
- Valentine’s Day baskets for residents
- Social media fundraising
- Staff vs Resident Penny War
- Timbers Night at Hamburgerseria in Joliet
- ALZSTARS Marathon run by Executive Director Kevin Young
A favorite event was the Staff vs Resident Penny War. One jar was for the residents, and the other was for the staff. Pennies and cash counted as points, while silver coins counted as negative points. The residents won by sabotaging the staff jar with silver coins and collecting more points. It was great fun for both teams. The grand total from both jars equaled $688.95.
To date, The Timbers of Shorewood has donated more than $36,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association.
