An old-fashioned Ice Cream Social will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at The Timbers of Shorewood retirement community, 1100 N. River Road. This is a free event and is open to the public.
Special entertainment will be provided by the men of the Will-Cook Knights of Harmony barbershop chorus. Joliet and South Cook choruses were separate groups, each formed in the 1940s. Memberships were declining, so the two choruses joined to create the Will-Cook Chapter Knights of Harmony.
The chorus is part of the international organization called the Barbershop Harmony Society. It is dedicated to music in a very pure form created with nothing but human voices.
Men from all over the world and from all walks of life and all ages come together and share in this truly American art form and find common ground through self expression in song. The friendships forged through barbershop harmony bridge gaps that no other hobby is capable of doing, and for many devotees, barbershop is far more than a hobby. It’s a passion.
The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Residents, whose needs may change, are able to stay in the same place and receive appropriate care.
The public is invited. For more information call 815-609-0669.
