Voted Best Senior Living Community in Will County

Joliet author supports senior living with book donation at ‘WriteOn Joliet’ “Meet the Authors” event.

Stephen Saporta, principle and founder of Saporta Law Offices in Joliet, donated funds that were used to purchase 30 copies of WriteOn Joliet’s latest anthology for members of the Timbers of Shorewood’s book club. He is an author from WriteOn Joliet.

The WriteOn Joliet writers visited the Timbers of Shorewood Senior Living at an event called “Meet the Authors” on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the Timbers, 1100 N. River Rd., Shorewood. The authors read passages from their latest anthology, signed books, and answered questions from members of the Timbers’ Book Club.

Saporta enjoys creative and autobiographical writing. In addition, he is an avid pool player who became friends with Tom Rossman (Dr. Cue®), an internationally known professional pool player. Every week after playing, Saporta would write to Rossman with analysis of his own game but with an emphasis on his feelings about the game. These writings became Saporta’s “Pool Stories.”

A few Pool Stories were published in Dr. Cue’s book “Rack Up a Victory.” In fact, Saporta was asked to write the forward to the book, Dr. Cue told Saporta that his writing impacted a lot of people. A member of WriteOn Joliet became aware of the Pool Stories and invited him to join WriteOn Joliet.

“I think the donating to the Timbers’ Book Club is a nice idea,” Saporta said. “This pool philosophy applies to life as well as pool: ‘to win is great, to play is better, and to love is the greatest of all.’”

“We are so grateful to Steve for his generosity,” said Amy Odell, director of activities at the Timbers. “This is our third “Meet the Authors” event, and it was just as wonderful as the first and second time. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed meeting the authors and reading their stories in the anthology.”

WriteOn Joliet meetings are from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays at the Joliet Public Library. The group’s members come from all over the southern suburbs. Some have self-published or have been traditionally published. Others are still exploring their writing options and interests. Regardless of the authors’ places in the writing world, WriteOn welcomes everyone looking to write, read, and grow.
