Annette Glasgow from United Health will present a seminar titled “Long Term Care Insurance” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Timbers of Shorewood retirement community, 1100 N. River Road.
More than eight million Americans are protected with long-term care coverage. Although age is not a determining factor in the necessity of long-term care, about 60 percent of those over 65 will need some type of long-term care services during their lifetime.
Long-term care insurance (LTCI) helps provide for the cost of care beyond a predetermined period. This insurance is developed specifically to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living and home health care in addition to other long-term care services (such as help with toileting, bathing and eating) which are generally not covered by health insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.
Typically these policies exclude:
• care provided by a family member
• care provided outside the U.S.
• care that results from war or an act of war
• care that results from an attempt at suicide or an intentionally self-inflicted injury
• treatment for alcoholism or drug addiction
• treatment provided in a government facility
