Voted Best Senior Living Community in Will County

The Heart of our Community

Faith Ann Varga, executive director

At the June 11 Chamber Business After Hours held at Heartland Bank and Trust in Shorewood, the bank presented the 2013 Heart of our Community award to two recipients.

This award was established to recognize local Shorewood residents who have stood out with their time and talent. Nominations were submitted by peers in the Shorewood community.

Heartland Bank recognizes its responsibility extends beyond providing financial services to the communities we serve.

“We strongly believe the ongoing success of a community involves good corporate citizenship and volunteerism,” said Debi Cunningham, vice president and retail aupport manager.

Nominations for the award were sought from residents in the Shorewood area. This award was designed to recognize people who have done something extraordinary, touched someone by lending a helping hand or made a difference in someone’s life.

Dan Goedert was recognized for his above-and-beyond sandbagging efforts to help protect the homes of his neighbors.

During the last two floodings, Dan has worked all day to help save homes in some of the worst flood locations in Shorewood.

Flood conditions were terrible and exhausting, but Dan worked selflessly to assist his neighbors in saving their homes.

When it comes to serving the Shorewood community, Faith Ann Varga is there. With a motto of “24/7 care,” Faith is busy non-stop. Since 2010, Faith has served as the executive director of The Timbers of Shorewood senior home.

Prior to that, she held the position of director of marketing for The Timbers of Shorewood for six years. Faith shares a love for seniors and enjoys working with them every day.

In addition, she volunteers at the Kiwanis, where she is the president; assists the Chamber; and volunteers wherever else she is needed. Faith is noted by her nominators that her energy and enthusiasm are boundless and that Shorewood is a better community due to her hard work and devotion.

The Heart of Our Community awards were presented by Sandra Fleck, market leader of Heartland Bank and Trust Company.

A check for $100 will be sent to the charities of Goedert’s and Varga’s choice and the recipients each received a personalized “Heart” award. Goedert and Varga will also ride in the bank’s Crossroads Fest “Heart of Our Community” Parade entry on Aug. 4, where Heartland Bank is a presenting sponsor.

“What a great way to top off our Business After Hours evening! Presenting our Heart of Our Community award and recognizing these deserving people was absolutely my favorite part of the night, they are both very deserving. Service to our community is what Heartland Bank and Trust is all about,” stated Cunningham.
