Brenda Ladson will present a talk on “the Importance of Walking,” at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 23, in the Elms Community Room at the Timbers of Shorewood retirement community, 1100 N. River Road.
Ladson is with Presence Medical Group Senior Center which is designed to help older adults continue to live a healthy lifestyle. She will discuss the benefits of walking and provide information about how to start.
Certain people with specific medical conditions may want to check with their doctor before becoming physically active; however, most people can start a simple walking program without problems.
Walking is easy, and it works. All that’s required is a good pair of walking shoes. Walking is the most accessible form of physical activity, and it quickly becomes part of a daily routine. For every hour of brisk walking, life expectancy for some people may increase by two hours. Walking for as few as 30 minutes a day improves heart health.
The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Residents, whose needs may change, are able to stay in the same place and receive appropriate care.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 815-609-0669
