Timbers of Shorewood Shatters Fundraising Records with $15,500 Donation to Alzheimer’s Association on #GivingTuesday
The Timbers of Shorewood donated $15,500 to the Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association as part of #GivingTuesday. Money was raised during multiple events and fundraisers throughout the year. To date, The Timbers of Shorewood has donated more than $66,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association.
“For the fourth year in a row, our fundraising program was more successful than the previous year,” said Kevin Young, executive director of the Timbers of Shorewood. “Timbers staff and residents are very proud to provide ongoing support to the Alzheimer’s Association and their important mission.”
Annual donation amounts:
- 2021 – $5,000
- 2022 – $11,200
- 2023 – $14,500
- 2024 – $15,500
Events and fundraisers that contributed to the donation:
- Team Timbers Alzheimer’s Walk
- Team champions included Diane Pfoser and Sheila Albor (individually raised more than $1,000)
- Staff vs Resident Penny War
- Timbers night at area restaurants (Chili’s)
- Fall Craft Show
- Bunco Night
- Bingo Night
- Candy Sales
- Bake Sales
- Hippity Hop Easter Egg Hunt
A favorite event was the Staff vs Resident Penny War. One jar was for the residents, and the other was for the staff. Pennies and cash counted as points, while silver coins counted as negative points. The residents won by sabotaging the staff jar with silver coins and collecting more points. The grand total of both jars was more than $600.
The Timbers of Shorewood Senior Living is a rental retirement community that provides independent living and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Residents whose needs may change are able to stay in the same place and receive appropriate and compassionate care. Furnished apartments are also available for short-term stays.
