Sandi Haynes, jazz vocalist and flutist, will perform at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 9, in the Grand Ballroom of the Timbers of Shorewood, 1100 N. River Rd., Shorewood. The event is free and open to the public.
Haynes brings back the great sounds from the big band era of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. Her warm voice mimics the torch songs and high energy swing tunes of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Peggy Lee. Haynes’s improvisational flute playing from blues to swing music delights listeners.
“During my shows for older adults, I do mostly singing, but I like to add in jazz flute, too,” Haynes said.
Haynes performs all over Chicagoland with various well known groups such as the Pete Ellman Big Band at Jilly’s of Naperville, Brass Tracks Big Band at Hackney’s, as well as with her own jazz trio for senior retirement communities and public and private events.
The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
